This type of infection can cause extreme pain, and can even spread past the root to infect the surrounding tissue, creating a lesion inside the bone. If the tooth is in good shape, a root canal treatment will be performed to preserve the tooth long-term. The procedure consists of disinfecting the canal and sealing it with an antibacterial and waterproof material that will hold the tooth in place.
